  • Burleigh County Mitigation Plan Receives Official Approval

Burleigh County and its participating communities (Lincoln, Regan, Wilton, and Wing) have received formal approval of the updated Burleigh County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan (MHMP) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services. The plan, led by Emergency Management Director Mary Senger, is approved for the five-year period of April 29, 2026, through April 28, 2031. It identifies key hazards, assesses risks, and outlines projects to help communities better prepare for, withstand, and recover from disasters.

    Why the Plan Matters

The Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan represents a proactive approach to reducing risk. Studies show that every $1 spent on pre-disaster mitigation saves society an average of $6 in future disaster costs. The plan helps prioritize limited resources, raises awareness of local risks, and identifies potential projects to build long-term community resilience.

     Access to Grant Funding

An approved MHMP is a critical requirement for accessing multiple federal hazard mitigation grant programs which makes Burleigh County and its partner communities eligible for significant FEMA and state funding opportunities.

The full plan is available on the Burleigh County website: www.burleigh.gov/mitigation
