Budget
Budget Hearings
Process
August 10: Local governing bodies (cities, counties, and townships) must complete their preliminary budget statements and set their public hearing dates. They must notify the county auditor of the date, time, location, and viewing access.
August 31: The county sends written notice to property owners showing the date, time, and location of budget hearings for the taxing districts where their property is located.
September 7 – October 7: The public hearing takes place. Citizens can voice protests, ask questions, or object to specific items in the preliminary budget.
October 10: Following the hearing, the governing body finalizes the budget and sets the final tax levy before certifying copies back to the County Finance Director.
